BILLINGS, MONTANA--After becoming accustomed to the thousands of Honda Gold Wing motorcycles driving around town last week (June 30-July 6, 1997), Billings residents should get ready for a sequel.
Call it "Wing Ding II," set to appear at MetraPark in 2000.
Gold Wing Road Riders Association officials said last week's convention was so successful that they've tentatively agreed to hold it again in Billings four years from now. They're already reserved a two-week block of time around the July 4 weekend at MetraPark for the association's 23rd annual event, said John Brewer, the Director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau at the Billings Area Chamber of Commerce. "We still have to go through the bidding process and all the other things we had to do to get them here this year, but it looks like they'll be back," he said.
For people who can't wait four years for the GWRRA sequel, a separate Gold Wing organization, the Gold Wing Touring Association, will come to town for a convention next summer. That organization boasts about 1,500 members, far fewer than the 65,000 GWRRA members worldwide, but GWTA is just as dedicated to the Honda Gold Wing touring motorcycle, Brewer said.
